With the summer temperatures soaring in Las Vegas, our hardy Scribes turned out en masse for Celtic Knots with Cindy. Great food and fun learning how to construct those tricky knots. In August we all bring our Favorite Tools to demonstrate. Its great inspiration for all the members to see tools that work well. On two Saturdays in June, our own fabulous Schin Loong taught a workshop on Madarasz Script. What a beautiful hand! Schin is a master of it and an excellent teacher. We had door prizes, critiques, lots of ink and paper and writing and writing and writing. Thanks Schin for a great workshop! Our June meeting was low key - our annual Show and Tell where members bring things they are working on or new stuff to show. Linda brought several new book forms and we want to learn them all! Nancy brought a book she made inspired by an article from 1988 in a National Geographic. Stephanie brought some sayings executed beautifully in Madarasz Script and during the course of the meeting some Father's Day cards and envelopes were made. Great food too - thanks everyone for participating! May's meeting was an exciting array of how to make animals with calligraphic strokes. Starting with a theme of animals in our environment with creatures that bounce to birds in flight presented by our president, Mary Hill. Join us in June for a delightful sharing of tools and tips of the calligraphy and paper making trades.Schin Loong demonstrated envelope embossing and Mary Hill, our president, reminds members of FAB LV scribes to participate in 3 design projects due at the June 17 meeting. First, a USPS stamp design. Second, a tee shirt design with the text "Be Kind & Write On." Third, a certificate that one can fill in name/date for Fab LV Scribes (letter size, horizontal) for such items as completing a beginning class or purchasing a class for a friend.
We had a great turnout to our March meeting. It began with origami. Linda G lead the workshop with paper rabbits. The huddle was Gothic. Members showed their finds from the California workshop, including S. Loong's Dog Certificates. The quote was "In like a lion and out like a lamb" with several wonderful entries.
A full room of scribes and paper lovers met. Pat Evans held a workshop on making Jacobs Ladder bound booklets for currency. She also brought a badge maker and scribes made lovely buttons to don their aprons. The scribe huddle lead by Cindy was Gothic. A guest artist, Diane Bush, joined us and requested interest in teachers for a senior center.
The first meeting of FabulousLVScribes was met with much enthusiasm. The new board was sworn in, books were made under the wonderful direction of Linda Shaffer, Vice President and the huddle with pens to paper flourished with the Gothic typeface headed up by Linda Goralski, Programs Chair. The pig was passed and prizes won and the year ahead planned.
Check out our Workshops/Classes page to see all the exciting upcoming events! November is our annual meeting. We approved officers and chairpersons for 2017, approved our revised bylaws and approved a budget. In addition Linda G provided us with two paper projects. The first simple cutting project evolved into a lovely 3D dove. The second is a meandering book folded and cut from one piece of 5.5 x 11 paper. Two groups then formed, one working on uncial and the other with pointed pen. The only bad part of the day was the fact that the freeway was closed, traffic was terrible and many members had difficulty making it to the meeting. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
