Then on Sunday, our member Pat Evans taught a workshop on the Magic of Parallel Pen ink. We gained two new members who attended the lesson - welcome Karen and Jane! There definitely is magic in this ink - it flows and blends beautifully, lending itself to lots of creativity on paper.
On Saturday, The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes demonstrated the art of calligraphy to Vegas Valley Book Festival participants. There were so many book sellers, vendors, speakers, booths, it was pretty amazing. We made bookmarks in broad-edged pen and pointed pen styles. Several of the bookmark recipients were teenagers who lamented that schools here no longer teach cursive. There were people waiting for us to set up our table so they could talk to us about our group and joining it. We are hoping to see them all at future meetings. On October 18 our meeting location moves to downtown Las Vegas at the Fifth Street School historical building where the Vegas Valley Book Festival has invited us to demonstrate calligraphy. We will also have 10 calligraphed haiku written by Nevada poets on exhibit.
Come see us "write fancy" from 2:30 to 4:00 in the Poetry Courtyard, talk to our members, check out the other vendors and authors, buy books, bring your kids to partake in activities just for them, and enjoy a beautiful October day in exhilarating downtown Las Vegas. |
