A photo is worth a thousand words ... Schin leading the workshop, and the goodie bags with supplies she made for all of us... a sample sheet of Spencerian, and the decorated macarons James made in the spirit of the weekend. This was a great workshop!

Today we learned how to make a folded paper book cover and use the same technique to make a frame. Pretty slick stuff at our meeting. We also did our calligraphy huddles - pointed pen was the popular one with Schin adding an extra bonus and showed us how she uses sealing wax and a custom stamp and soot to embellish her business cards. James and Dee worked on pointed pen in a very intense session. What a great group we have - so much fun and sharing. In May, The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes participated in two events, one in Las Vegas and one in Kingman.
"April Showers bring Asian Flowers" was the theme for the Las Vegas event in conjunction with the Clark County Library. It was held at the Sahara West location and included The Scribes demonstrating origami (thanks Linda!) as well as flowers and bamboo done with an Asian pointed brush and black ink (thanks Mary and James!). Several Scribes brought items to sell and just hang out with the groups doing flowers, bamboo and origami. The Kingman Regional Medical Center sponsors a Kid's Day every year and The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes participate by making bookmarks for the kids who came through. We lettered about 500 bookmarks this year thanks to Pat, Cindy and Nancy. The recipients are always amazed with our pens and their pretty names on the bookmarks. |
