Of course in Las Vegas NV, you have a pretty big chance of having a Sunny day in November, even though in many parts of the country, it is snowy and cold. The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes had a great day building what many of those areas have experienced. We made Snowflakes! Linda ourQuilling Queen, took us through a fabulous demonstration and had kits for each of us to create these lovely little snowflakes. If you recall....there are never two snowflakes alike and we are a testimony to that for proof. They turned out lovely and some had rhinestones adorned on them. The final touch would be to coat these with a light mix of Mod Podge and add a pretty thread or ribbon. Beautiful for a package, decoration or even on the tree! Suzy Snowflake may have liked one of these for her Snow White Gown. Do you remember the song?

The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes again had a fabulous time creating and designing to their hearts delights on the beautiful last Saturday in October. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for drying our paste paper outside. A clothesline was strung outside between a palms & structures and it was "so Las Vegas"! We just needed some twinkling lights! There was two different pastes where used and many different tools to design with. In reflection, it is beautiful looking at the results. I am certain that these will go on to become beautiful book covers, box covers and many other original piece works. Dirty Pour was again a big hit and many enjoyed this with awesome results. With the knowledge learned many will go on creating on their own. Their results were Amazing and fun to see how quickly everyone caught on, experimented and played. Cindy hosted this event for the Members and she Shined! Even Sampson, her world famous turtle came out t0 sit in the sun for us this day. This is one day the Members all look forward to. The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes had a challenging afternoon for their meeting and mini day of pop up cards. Dee Pink and her friend Becky Crowe who is delightful and very fun and talented taught the group how to do a Halloween Pop Up card. Becky was such a delight and had everything there for us to put our card together. Becky is a teacher and at one point someone asked...what grade do you teach? I think we were a little challenged, keeping the pace. So many little pieces and design elements were implemented by members of the FLVScribes. The results were fabulous and the fun and laughter was equal. Does a Third Saturday ever let us down? We always enjoy! The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes met at Red Rock Harley Davidson on a beautiful day on September 15th for their meeting. As always the FLVS never just go for a "Meeting," we go for fun and activities as well. Our Fabulous Cindy led our group in a delightful little book filled with Pangrams. She had provided the inserts which we divided into two sections... ALPHABET Strings and PANGRAMS. Cindy is our Wizard and she methodically designed this so that if we opened the book one way it was alphabet strings with words and names listed of course, alphabetically. Then flip it over to open the other way and it was the pangrams, which are little sentences using all or most all, of the letters in a sentence. What a wonderful little ditty tool to have at our practice areas, to get us all ready for our artistic endeavors. Each book was a treat in itself with each of us designing and adding our touches. Thank you Cindy. Next Month will be an equally exciting month.
We had a Fabulous day meeting with the Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes at Red Rock Harley Davidson. Linda Goralski and Mary Stutz (moi) led our scribes in Embossing and Debossing. We started with the old world way of taking mat board and carving our design into the board. Patience is premier and even as adults, sometimes hard to come by. It is definitely a slower process as after carving your image, then you must start embossing and stretching the paper, careful not to let it cut or split. Patience! Linda had brought so many supplies as she is a card maker as well. She brought many stencils, which many found very easy to work with and found that the designs were fun and concise. However, Linda's coup was her super duper Tim Holtz embosser! What a machine that is. Putting the design into a sleeve and running it through the machine. Voila! Simple and Easy-Peasy! We had a lot of fun and lots of laughs. We ended up having our cluster practicing and working on pointed pen and Uncial pen work. It is always good to get some practice in. The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes met at Red Rock Harley Davidson for their monthly meeting. It was an informative meeting that continued with Linda Shaffer aka: Happy, giving her teachings of..."Things to do with Rubbers!" As you see in the photo's, they are little folded book-card vessels with pockets, which have virtually endless possibilities. The binding is of a stick and a "rubber"-band and paper inside which can make for a note, calendar, calligraphy writings and endless possibilities! Cindy C. was busy at work and brought in some of the books she had made, which we had previously learned with Pat Evans. We have such talented people in our group and I love when they share their creations. Cindy's books were a highlight as well and with papers she had and book boards taken from old materials, she created a lovely collection! It was a beautiful day for the Scribes to meet at Red Rock Harley Davidson on Father's Day weekend! The temperature was great in Vegas and the parking lot was a sight for anyone's eyes! There were so many Harleys and a beautiful old Vet" I may say so, parked outside...not to mention the array of chrome, powder-coating, leather and sheer "Made in the USA" products on the inside. Additionally, there was a food truck, beverages, games, raffles and lots of celebration! My camera just does not give justice as I really should have a wide angle lens. Come and Join Us next month on July 16th for our meeting and our fun learning time of Embossing and Debossing! 1pm at Red Rock Harley Davidson. Bring in some of your creations to share, if you would like. It is always wonderful to see what everyone is doing. Enjoy and Write On! The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes had an intense 2 day workshop with Bill Kemp from Arizona. Some chose a 1 day however, many took advantage and took the two day. It was an enthralling experience which filled my mind with so much knowledge! The 1st day was Weaver Writing, which was developed by Gwen Weaver whom the writing is named after. He began by giving each student a potato, not to eat but to clean and lubricate the nib while writing. He then took the class through ink choices, the nib, pen holders, practice strokes using your whole arm and "bones" which is the down-stroke of the letters, and does look like a bone, all beginning with a warm-up before writing. Through each step, he articulated and was very precise in how it was to be achieved, including flourishes! I must say, this was wonderful as so many of us....Got It! Once we went through the letters, which were grouped in likeness, we began writing and he critiquing! I love Critiquing! It is helpful and constructive. In the examples you will see the red pen, which is where we "should be". As you enjoy the slideshow, one of the basic differences is that in Weaver Writing, it is basically all lower case letters with flourishes on the ascenders and descenders. The 2nd day focused on Pointed Pen Uncial. Using the same principle of Weaver Writing we changed the style of the hand into Uncial which was developed by Mike Kecsig and his love of the pointed pen. Uncial itself was primarily a broad edged pen prior in the 4th & 10th century. Again going through the letters and script which is very vertical, we practiced and Bill came around to each of us individually and helped each of us and he helped by critiquing in red, so we could see where we went wrong...if we did. Uncial is basically all capital letters with very short ascenders and descenders. Once all the letters were complete, it was our time to work on a piece. Talk about "pressure". We each did a piece and thusly had a group shot of all of our works. How beautiful it was...and all in one day! Amazing!! It was a fabulous workshop...both days! I am so thankful to Bill Kemp for all his expertise, help and knowledge. You meet people along the path of life and they really enhance Life! He is one of these people. The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes met at Red Rock Harley Davidson on Rainbow for their monthly meeting. The meeting was well attended and lively. Everyone gathered around as yours truly, Mary Stutz led the group in showing the technique of lettering with watercolor. Pulling out the bag of tools and colors, and using a brush, a dip pen, an automatic pen and other resources, it was a fun exercise both in learning to teach loading our implements with color. It is almost Magical to see how the colors blend and change and then also shadow one another. It is a fun way to make your piece come alive and become playful. I was especially pleased to see how well everyone caught on and ran with it. I am hoping that everyone will bring in a piece for the next meeting as a Show and Tell. The Fabulous Las Vegas Scribes met at our new home at Red Rock Harley Davidson. It was a welcoming spot of Harleys everywhere, a paradise of shopping, fun, excitement of bikes in the lot and indoors! One would think that all this excitement was for the Scribes...but the fun did not stop there. The meeting room was spacious and all accommodating. We feel at home again! We had a great meeting with over 23 scribes in attendance to learn the art of Stab Binding. Mary Hill lead the group and was then joined by Linda Goralski in teaching the art of this old simple binding technique. Mary was so gracious in having kits all prepared for us with paper all prepared and punched, kits with binding materials and needles. The binding materials can be simple to elaborate, as can be the binding design pattern. Linda Goralski shared with us a different pattern of a star, which we practiced on a cardboard, following written instructions. Thank heavens for those! It was a fun learning day and filled with laughter and knowledge. What a Beautiful Day to enjoy the day at Amy’s home on April 14th. We all enjoyed the sunshine and shade in her beautiful yard making cards for the people in the homes and I must admit they were so AmaZING! The layering of papers with stamps and embellishments turned out so beautifully. There were about 12 of us designing and making the cards and Mary Chaytor and Nancy Sampson were doing their beautiful lettering on them. We were entertained all afternoon by Amy's neighbors wonderful Turkeys who were gobbling away. The chuckles of the group always made us All laugh! As always...A Day with Sunshine and Laughter! |
